So you've heard about 'Lash Lifts' and you're wondering what on earth they are. No, they aren't an exercise to give you stronger eyelids and lashes, they are essentially an eyelash perm and often packaged with a tint to give you jet black, long curled up and 'lifted' lashes.
The before and after photos above speak for themselves but its also good to know how it works and why its a great option for those who love a good lash but aren't wanting eyelash extensions.
So how does it work?
A lash lift is first prepped by adhering a foam rod or rubber pad to your eyelid that your upper lashes are then bent over to create the curl you like. Then a perm solution and neutraliser is applied before its washed off, then the rod is removed and tint is brushed onto your upper and lower lashes. After a few more minutes the tint is removed and your lashes dried.
And thats it. Usually you are in and out within 40 minutes or less and then you don't need mascara or those scary eyelash curlers at all. Perfect for low maintenance summer beach beauty and those tear jerking movies we can't seem to stay away from.
I hear you! Its hard to shop cruelty free cosmetics on a budget and at a convenient location for those last minute beauty emergencies... I have been there and even though we buy with the best of intentions, sometimes we don't realise that the brands we are buying from actually do test on our furry friends because they are getting so good at hiding it.
So it's time to clear the air and let you know exactly which brands are cruelty free at one of our favourite, go-to, easy to find, last minute beauty stores: Priceline.
In no particular order, some of my faves are:
As time goes on I'll continue to update and improve this list, so feel free to comment below if I have missed any.
I had an amazing time working with the team for Harpers Bazaar Singapore. I was lucky enough to work with Head Makeup Artist Linda Jeffreys and Head Hair Stylist Daren Borthwick of The Artist Group Sydney for this project. It's always a fantastic experience being able to be a part of these shoots.

I have always loved the look of gorgeous fluffy lashes and after experiencing them for myself, I wanted to know more. Thick, Long Lashes have been the ultimate beauty accessory for decades and now, thanks to some fantastic training and experience, I can give you the lashes you always dreamed of.
I always loved being able to personalise a lash, hair by hair in makeup so it seemed like the next natural step in my career to learn this fine and delicate art to transform the lashes of lovely ladies around the Illawarra and South Coast.

In the mean time I'll be sipping on pina coladas and having a good swim at the Great Barrier Reef/
There are some amazing products out there from tested brands, they perform at the highest level and work a dream but like many of us, I prefer products that haven't been tested on fluffy animals. And with brands coming out with new fan dangled things all the time, its easy to find a substitute if you know what you are looking for. So I have found the 5 top tested makeup products that have amazing duplicates out there just waiting to be discovered. Here goes!
Bioderma > Embryolisse Micellar Water
So there are few products out there that are literally in every makeup artists kit. Bioderma is it. A high performing water cleanser removes makeup and residue without any irritation what so ever.
I have only recently discovered that this is a tested product and it actually hurts a little because I love this product so much. I like the packaging, the consistency and all the rest but its tested.
So what replaces this holy grail product?
The Embryolisse brand actually makes a killer Micellar water. And bonus! It's cheaper! It's available at Online, Selected Salons and some makeup schools and boutiques. Remove your makeup and clean your skin while keeping a clean conscience too!
Benefit Hoola Bronzer > Cover FX Blot Powder
The Hoola Bronzer is a cult classic. It's a great colour, texture and the packaging is super cute, but for the animal lovers out there, Benefit is a no-go brand. Luckily, the amazing Cover FX Blotting Powderis a great alternative. It comes in a compact with a mirror which is always a bonus and the colour is amazing. I like Medium for skin tones like Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway and Nicole Kidman. Deep is for the Golden Goddesses who share their colouring with the genetically blessed realm like Charlize Theron.
You'll find Cover FX at Sephora store and online as well as my favourite makeup suppliers, PM Studio.
Revlon Colour Stay Liquid Foundation > Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
I used this foundation when I was in High School before I really got into makeup and serious about Cruelty Free Beauty. I loved this stuff, it stayed all day, the colour was good and I could find it pretty much anywhere. It's such a bummer than Revlon tests as they have some great products. But luckily there is Too Faced Born This Way Foundation to fill the hole in your makeup bag.
Too Faced is a completely cruelty free brand and big with the YouTuber generation thanks to people like Nikki-Tutorials and MannyMUA. This foundation quickly rose to fame, and for good reasons. Its build-able in coverage, has a great range of colours and sits beautifully on the skin without being cakey or breaking down through the day.
You can find this at Mecca store and online. Have a chat to the lovely ladies and gents in store and you'll fall head over heels for this foundation.
OPI Nail Polish > RMS Nail Polish
Nail polish... I swear everything can be tested on animals apparently. Last time I checked, my puppy Luna didn't need her toes painted, so why is it being tested on our Furry Friends!?
Most of the major brands are tested (sad face!). Essie, OPI, Revlon, Maybelinne, Sally Hansen. So where do you turn for good quality Nail polish in all our fave shades? RMS Beauty is your answer.
All your classic shades as well as a few fun ones in there too, and for $22, you can't complain about the price. Not only is it cruelty free, its also vegan, free of petrochemicals, parabens and a whole heap of other nasties our nail beds absorb.
Chanel Boy Lipstick > Shanghai Suzy Miss Leah Baby Cocoa
There is something about a perfect nude lipstick that makes you feel sexy and casual all rolled into one. For so long, Chanel has held the reins on the perfect nude lipstick, but not any more. A fairly new brand to the Australian market is Shanghai Suzy. They are an on trend, cruelty free and funky brand based from Melbourne selling a range of colours and formulas in their lipsticks.
Miss Leah Baby Cocoa was in production for about six months a few seasons back as a part of the summer range and now its permanent! No more stock piling required! You'll find these at lots of stockists around the country as well as on their online store. They all smell amazing and they are just $14.95. Bargain!
Disclaimer: These products are to the best of my knowledge, based on the research I have made online and in person, cruelty free at the time of this post. Please be aware that brands have been known to switch between tested and not tested and as a result this information can become outdated. To be sure, please check with the brand directly to confirm cruelty free status.
