I'm Liv, your scatter brained, organised chaos, beauty enthusiast and Makeup Artist. I'm a South Coast girl with a baking addiction and serious love of lazy days. I almost fell into makeup by accident when I came across a stand for a makeup school at a high school career's expo and figured 'Why not?' On a whim I enrolled and loved every minute since. For me, I love the excitement and fast pace of the makeup world. It never stops changing and it keeps me guessing and learning every single day.
I am all about natural beauty, none of the Kim/Kylie/Khloe/Kourtney/Kris/Kendal K (Enough with the K's!) stuff you see so often these days. Its all heavy and no life. We live in our makeup every day. If my face is itchy, I'm gonna wanna scratch that without making a Master Chef worthy quinella or leaving a hole to my God Forbid! Natural Skin! So here we go...
Things you won't find here are Instagram Brows, Drag contouring on women to apparently wear daily (really?), over done makeup, things only billionaires can afford to use, and dirty makeup habits (I definitely am not Betty home-maker, but my makeup stash is in peak condition and cleaned regularly. No germs for me, Thankyou!).
You will find lots of makeup tips from storage to application and more. I love 'Friends' and will quote up a storm so be prepared. You'll see more real life makeup and things you can use in your every day lives. We are all human and - lets face it, who has an hour to spend on the makeup when we could be wrapped up in bed or having a hot cup of tea before heading off for the day?! Not me, thats for sure. Notice I didn't mention the gym there as an early morning routine... that doesn't happen for me. My idea of a good work out is thoroughly buffing my foundation (being sure to alternate hands for an evenly spread lack of muscle tone).
In a my professional life and applying makeup to clients, I take all the care in the world, but I'm not that nice to myself. I'm often grabbing my makeup bag to apply in the car on the way to work. I am rather talented at doing makeup at the traffic lights - unless you're a highway patrol police officer, in which case I would never do such as thing!
So if you want to see what an Unglamorous Makeup Artist does on the daily, stay tuned. Hopefully I'll impart some wisdom, or at least give you a laugh every now and then.
Its been ages since I updated my blog and let you all know what I've been up to. Work has been so incredibly busy (and amazing) lately that the updates have been slipping my mind. But not to worry, here is my last month in a nut shell.
The most exciting things that have been happening have been as a result of being selected to be a part of the Global Hair and Makeup Team who travelled to Cannes to be a part of the Cannes Film Festival and then over to Monaco for the Grand Prix. As a part of the team I was lucky enough to be behind the scenes at the Film Festival working with Celebrities and models on some pretty amazing fashion and red carpet events that supported the festival. I was in full Celeb spotting mode the whole time and met some pretty incredible people along the way.
In Monaco we worked at the Amber Lounge. This is the offical Formula One charity fashion show and following parties and after parties. It was amazing to work at this event with designer, Osman (who dresses Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and countless other amazing individuals) at the Le Meridian in Monte Carlo. The view alone is stunning and to be right there in the hustle and bustle is a wonderful feeling.
So Lets Talk Makeup!
The backstage looks were in two distinct categories. Glamour styles and clean 'no makeup' looks. My personal favourite is the cleaner, natural side of makeup. For me I love a good challenge. Its quite hard to make skin that is imperfect look perfect and also look like there is no makeup on the skin. Its all smoke and mirrors.
The glamour looks were classic and beautiful with red lips, perfect winged eyeliner and of course a good lash (We used Baiela Lashes on this trip!). Our first show was down on the beach in Cannes - Not a bad office for the day! - red carpet was being installed as we arrived. After heading backstage and getting set up it was time for the models to arrive. The look was a modern twist on the classic Marilyn Monroe Lip and Eye Liner. We used OCC Liquid Lipsticks for the classic red and kept the skin nice and fresh with lots of moist textures so their skin was glowing and soft.
At the fashion shows it was a different story! Skin was bare, contouring wasn't seen and the focus wasn't on the model, it was all about the clothing. And Oh my goodness, the clothing was amazing! From hand beaded flowing luxury gowns to resort wear, it was beautiful.
