My Daily Makeup Routine

11/5/2018

People ask me, "How long do you take to do your makeup every day?" and "What do you do day to day?" Well, here it is. Its not fancy, I'm not magic and there is no way (seriously) that I would be missing out on any extra sleep to do fancy makeup or wear false eye lashes daily. I applaud the makeup lovers out there that can do it, but I just love sleep way too much.

My three priorities in the morning are sleeping as long as possible, a cup of tea and looking alive.
The quicker I can get ready the more sleep I get and my day is off to a great start.

Click 'Read More' below to find out the nitty gritty of my speedy morning makeup routine.

Lash Lifts, What are they?

16/10/2017

Hello Beautiful!

So you've heard about 'Lash Lifts' and you're wondering what on earth they are. No, they aren't an exercise to give you stronger eyelids and lashes, they are essentially an eyelash perm and often packaged with a tint to give you jet black, long curled up and 'lifted' lashes.

The before and after photos above speak for themselves but its also good to know how it works and why its a great option for those who love a good lash but aren't wanting eyelash extensions.

So how does it work?

A lash lift is first prepped by adhering a foam rod or rubber pad to your eyelid that your upper lashes are then bent over to create the curl you like. Then a perm solution and neutraliser is applied before its washed off, then the rod is removed and tint is brushed onto your upper and lower lashes. After a few more minutes the tint is removed and your lashes dried.

And thats it. Usually you are in and out within 40 minutes or less and then you don't need mascara or those scary eyelash curlers at all. Perfect for low maintenance summer beach beauty and those tear jerking movies we can't seem to stay away from.

Now Offering Eyelash Extensions

I'm so excited to be expanding my services to now offer Eyelash Extensions! Appointments being taken from September 1st, 2017 from my new studio in Gerringong, just ten minutes south of Kiama.

I have always loved the look of gorgeous fluffy lashes and after experiencing them for myself, I wanted to know more. Thick, Long Lashes have been the ultimate beauty accessory for decades and now, thanks to some fantastic training and experience, I can give you the lashes you always dreamed of.

I always loved being able to personalise a lash, hair by hair in makeup so it seemed like the next natural step in my career to learn this fine and delicate art to transform the lashes of lovely ladies around the Illawarra and South Coast.

To make it as easy as possible for you, I have listed a few of my frequently asked questions to be able to point you in the right direction and answer those questions you've always wondered about.
If you would like to make an appointment or any enquiries, please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me here.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash Extensions refers to the process of applying individual hairs (classic lashes) or delicate fans of 2-8 hairs (Russian Volume Lashes) to each of your own natural eyelash hairs. Hairs come in different thicknesses, lengths and curls to be able to mimic your own lashes and create your dream lash.

  • How long to Eyelash Extensions last?
Generally speaking eyelash extensions last 3-4 weeks for an average growth cycle before needing an infill. However like your hair and nails, your lashes grow and shed at different rates in a cycle that is unique to you. You lose hair from your whole body every day and your lashes are the same so your infills may need to be more regular or you can stretch it out to four weeks. I recommend booking your infills no later than four weeks from your last appointment.

  • How long do they take to put on?
Your first full set will take between two and three hours depending on what style you choose, if you need removal and your natural lashes. Classic Lashes are faster while Volumes can take a little longer to get the fans all perfect. So with this time frame, feel free to bring an audio book, listen to some music or drift off into a relaxing nap.
Infill appointments take approximately 1 hour.

  • How do I care for my lashes?
Its important to be gentle with your lashes when cleaning so they don't become matted or brittle. Cleaning your lashes daily when you wash your face is best and comb them through with the brush I give you at your appointment. The main this is to ensure you don't use anything containing oil around your lashes as this is what breaks down the glue.
At your appointment I will go through exactly how to clean your lashes and you'll be given a cheat sheet to take how so you know exactly what is needed to get the best out of your lashes.

  • What are the lashes made out of?
Eyelash extensions are made from a variety of different fibres and every lash artist will differ depending on their own preferences. There are Acrylic, Synthetic, Silk, Mink and Faux (fake) Mink lashes readily available as well as Rabbit and Human hair. As a cruelty free advocate I use Faux Mink and Silk lashes to ensure the highest quality while maintaining my ethical choices against animal cruelty.  For this reason, I can cater to Vegan Clients using the faux mink fibres to give you a perfect lash.

About Me

25/6/2016

I'm Liv, your scatter brained, organised chaos, beauty enthusiast and Makeup Artist. I'm a South Coast  girl with a baking addiction and serious love of lazy days. I almost fell into makeup by accident when I came across a stand for a makeup school at a high school career's expo and figured 'Why not?' On a whim I enrolled and loved every minute since. For me, I love the excitement and fast pace of the makeup world. It never stops changing and it keeps me guessing and learning every single day.

I am all about natural beauty, none of the Kim/Kylie/Khloe/Kourtney/Kris/Kendal K (Enough with the K's!) stuff you see so often these days. Its all heavy and no life. We live in our makeup every day. If my face is itchy, I'm gonna wanna scratch that without making a Master Chef worthy quinella or leaving a hole to my God Forbid! Natural Skin! So here we go...

Things you won't find here are Instagram Brows, Drag contouring on women to apparently wear daily (really?), over done makeup, things only billionaires can afford to use, and dirty makeup habits (I definitely am not Betty home-maker, but my makeup stash is in peak condition and cleaned regularly. No germs for me, Thankyou!).

You will find lots of makeup tips from storage to application and more. I love 'Friends' and will quote up a storm so be prepared. You'll see more real life makeup and things you can use in your every day lives. We are all human and - lets face it, who has an hour to spend on the makeup when we could be wrapped up in bed or having a hot cup of tea before heading off for the day?! Not me, thats for sure. Notice I didn't mention the gym there as an early morning routine... that doesn't happen for me. My idea of a good work out is thoroughly buffing my foundation (being sure to alternate hands for an evenly spread lack of muscle tone).

In a my professional life and applying makeup to clients, I take all the care in the world, but I'm not that nice to myself. I'm often grabbing my makeup bag to apply in the car on the way to work. I am rather talented at doing makeup at the traffic lights - unless you're a highway patrol police officer, in which case I would never do such as thing!

So if you want to see what an Unglamorous Makeup Artist does on the daily, stay tuned. Hopefully I'll impart some wisdom, or at least give you a laugh every now and then.
